Te Rūnanga o Ngāi Tahu is seeking an experienced, strategic and values‑driven Senior Procurement Specialist to join our Group Procurement (Kaitaonga) team in a permanent, full‑time capacity, based in Ōtautahi.

Reporting to the Group Procurement Manager, this role works across Te Rūnanga Group to deliver best‑practice, value‑for‑money procurement outcomes in a complex and diverse commercial environment. You’ll support a wide range of internal stakeholders and supplier relationships, while also contributing to responsible procurement outcomes that include supporting Ngāi Tahu‑owned and whānau‑owned businesses.

As the Senior Procurement Specialist, you will partner with leaders and teams across Te Rūnanga Group to deliver effective, consistent and commercially sound procurement outcomes. You’ll provide trusted advice, lead complex procurement processes, and support the continuous improvement of procurement practice across the organisation.

Your key responsibilities include:

  • Leading end‑to‑end procurement processes, from planning and sourcing through to evaluation, contract award and supplier management

  • Providing high‑quality procurement advice and commercial insight to a broad range of internal stakeholders

  • Supporting the development, review and maintenance of procurement policies, frameworks, templates and processes

  • Managing and continuously improving Group‑wide contracts as allocated by the Group Procurement Manager

  • Monitoring supplier performance and risk, and supporting contract owners to address issues where required

  • Championing good procurement practice, early planning and pragmatic change management

  • Supporting responsible supplier engagement, including enabling Ngāi Tahu‑owned businesses to participate where appropriate

  • Building strong, professional relationships with suppliers and internal partners

  • Contributing to procurement reporting, insights and benefits realisation

Ko wai koe | About you

You are an experienced procurement professional who brings strong commercial acumen, sound judgement and a collaborative, solutions‑focused mindset. You enjoy working with stakeholders, navigating complexity, and making things better through good process and strong relationships.

You will bring:

  • 10+ years’ experience in procurement, contract management or supplier relationship management

  • Proven experience leading complex or high‑value procurement activities

  • Strong stakeholder engagement and influencing skills

  • Experience developing procurement documentation such as procurement plans and tender documents

  • Excellent project, time and workload management skills

  • An undergraduate qualification in a relevant field

  • MCIPS membership, or progress toward it, is an advantage

  • Experience in the primary, property and/or tourism sectors would be beneficial

You bring:

  • Proven executive leadership experience at CE / GM / Tier 1 level, with strong governance literacy and confidence working closely with Boards.

  • A strong commercial orientation and a track record of negotiation, growth and delivery, comfortable operating with “big budgets, small teams” and securing complex, relationship-based agreements for iwi benefit.

  • Experience in the machinery of government, commissioning, funding, and outcome-based contracting (ideally across iwi, Māori health, and/or social investment settings), with the agility to pursue and close new opportunities.

  • Strong data literacy and the ability to champion evidence, insights and evaluation as a strategic lever.

  • Cultural fluency or a genuine commitment to iwi Māori outcomes, with and understanding of te ao Māori.

  • Exceptional relationship building capability across iwi, Crown agencies and providers with proven ability to build trust and protect integrity in politically sensitive environments.

  • Previous experience working in the tourism industry (desirable)

  • A New Zealand Certificate or Diploma (Level 4 or above) in astronomy, science communication, visitor interpretation, or an equivalent overseas qualification (required if the above experience is not met)

  • A valid New Zealand Driver’s Licence, or the ability to obtain one

  • A current P endorsement, or the ability to obtain one

Reporting to the Chief Operating Officer, this role is the senior governance professional within the Office of Te Rūnanga o Ngāi Tahu. It is a pivotal leadership role, combining strategic influence with hands-on stewardship of high-quality governance practice across a complex group environment.

About the role

As Governance Services Lead, you will be accountable for the end-to-end governance system that supports effective, principled decision-making at scale. This includes the standards, processes, instruments, registers, and technology that underpin the work of Te Rūnanga and its standing committees.

You will be a trusted advisor to senior leaders, including the COO, CEO, Kaiwhakahaere, and Committee Chairs, and a credible partner across Te Rūnanga Group on all governance-related matters. You will also lead the Governance function, with the opportunity to shape the team and how governance services are delivered as capability evolves.

This role has a strong future focus - designing, improving, and modernising governance systems - while ensuring absolute rigour in current-day delivery.

As Governance Services Lead, you will:

  • Lead and continuously improve Te Rūnanga o Ngāi Tahu’s governance system, ensuring it enables strong, well-paced, and effective governance.

  • Provide secretariat leadership for Te Rūnanga and its committees, including agenda planning, paper standards, hui support, and decision recording.

  • Partner closely with the COO, CEO, Kaiwhakahaere, and Chairs as a trusted governance advisor.

  • Ensure decisions are clearly recorded, actions are tracked to completion, and governance obligations are met.

  • Own the full governor lifecycle, including induction, development, registers of interest, and exit processes.

  • 7+ years’ experience in governance, company secretariat, or an equivalent senior role within a complex organisation or group.

  • People leadership experience with a track record of developing capability and performance.

  • Strong judgement, exceptional written communication skills, and a clear understanding of the boundary between governance and management.

  • Confidence working with governance technology and automation (board portals, Microsoft 365, SharePoint-based registers).

  • A willingness to learn, engage with, and uphold Ngāi Tahu values, tikaka, and te reo Māori, and an awareness of and affinity for the needs and aspirations of Ngāi Tahu Whānui.

Reporting to the Governance Services Lead, this is a role for someone who takes pride in doing governance work well – who brings initiative, owns their work, and is always looking for ways to improve.

About the role

The Governance Services Advisor is at the operational heart of the Governance function. You will support the delivery of a high-quality, consistent governance service across Te Rūnanga and its standing committees, working under the direction of the Governance Services Lead.

Day-to-day, you will manage the papers cycle for assigned committees, take accurate Board minutes, maintain governance registers and records, and coordinate the practical logistics that make governance hui run smoothly. You will work alongside the Executive Administrative and Support functions, contributing to a collaborative, professional team.

This is a role for someone who takes genuine ownership of their workstreams, notices what needs to be better, and makes it so.

As Governance Services Advisor, you will:

  • Support delivery of the end-to-end papers cycle for assigned committees – coordinating paper submissions, assembling packs, and meeting every release deadline.

  • Take clear, accurate, and timely minutes at Board and committee hui and see them through to finalisation.

  • Maintain the decision register, action register, governance calendar, and other governance records with precision and care.

  • Coordinate hui logistics including room set-up and pack-down, catering, technology, and on-the-day support.

  • Work collaboratively with the Executive Support and Administration functions to ensure governance hui run seamlessly.

  • Own assigned projects and processes end-to-end, proactively identifying and implementing improvements.

  • Support the Governance Services Lead on governance instrument reviews, governor lifecycle administration, and reporting.

  • Use technology and digital tools to streamline repeatable tasks and lift the quality of governance services.

Te Whakaariki/Strategy & Influence’s main objective is to protect and advance Settlement. Looking for a unique opportunity to apply your accounting expertise while contributing to the long‑term prosperity of Ngāi Tahu whānui? We’re searching for a dedicated Financial Accountant (Fixed Term) to support our Group Finance team at Ngāi Tahu Holdings.

This role plays a crucial part in the annual statutory reporting cycle for both Ngāi Tahu Holdings (IFRS) and Te Rūnanga o Ngāi Tahu (PBE Standards). You’ll help prepare audit‑ready workpapers, annual financial statements, and provide high‑quality accounting support across our commercial group. This fixed term position covers a kaimahi on sabbatical during the 30 June year‑end period.
